LEG WRAP POSITIONING AID
A disabled person who moves by the means of a wheelchair, is often associated with the person suffering from paraparesis/paraplegia – both of the lower limbs disability. Paraplegia appears after transverse damage to spinal cord or brain damage.
The diasbled person’s ability to functional movements depends on the cause of the disability and the stage of the disease. This aspect is not only connected with the gait problems. It may involve the whole motor organ as well. A diasbled person is also a person who has difficulities with coordination, movement precision and appropriate balance. That is why, a person gets tired more quickly and has inincorrect muscle tension. Moreover, a disability may be caused by both some kind of malformations during the fetal period and after injuries or accidents. The motor organ disorders often develop as a paralysis or paresis. To sum up, paralysis may indicate the problems with basic movements and their correctness, muscle weakness, slowness of movements and the paresis makes impossible to perform any kind of movement.
Such person may be self-reliant and move on the wheelchair by means of hands, but the legs transposition often becomes an impossible activity. Our technologists designed the lower limb brace that are the perfect solution for disabled people. Thanks to the brace OKD-13 a patient is able to raise his leg freely without problems or difficulties. In extremal cases, it is possible to raise the lower limb using only dorsal muscles (of the back).
A brace work well in special centres for disabled people because it definitely simplifies the invalid care. OKD-13 braces may be used by patients all day and all night and that is why the attendants of diasabled people have less work to do regarding the transportation os their patients.
The brace OKD-13 consists of the main load-bearing strap and three clamping-rings equipped with polyamid buckles and special Velcro tapes. The whole system makes that the braces fits to the lower limb perfectly and is fully comfortable for a patient. The lowest clamping-ring is places just above the malleolus, the middle part – above the knee and the upper part is placed on the thigh. If the brace is places in a proper way, the main strap should cross the shin, patella and the front of the thigh.
To raise the lower limb, the attendant of a disabled person should grip and raise the load-bearing strap around the thigh. However, to transport the limb, it is necessary to grip the load-bearing strap around the thigh with one hand, raise it and move with the second hand.
To transport a lower limb, a disabled person who has limited movement possibilites should as follow:
- insert the forearm under the load-bearing strap around the thigh,
- then streighten up and turn the trunk,
- lean and bring the forearm up from the load-bearing strap.
