WRIST AND THUMB PAIN

Wrist and thumb injuries are among the most common injuries of the upper limb. They can result from overloads, falls, degenerative changes or inflammatory diseases.

One of the most commonly recognised wrist pain syndromes is de Quervain’s Syndrome. This is advanced inflammation of the thumb tendon sheath, causing pain when turning the wrist, grasping anything or clenching the fist. Although the exact cause of de Quervain’s Thumb Tendonitis is not known, any activity that relies on repetitive movements of the hand or wrist, such as gardening, playing golf, playing racquet sports or lifting a child, can make the situation worse.

Pain and swelling severely impede daily function. Immobilisation of the joint provides an opportunity for recovery and reduces inflammation. For this purpose, a long wrist orthosis with a detachable thumb splint, which comprehensively reduces inflammation and pain syndrome in the wrist, will work well.

The AM-OSN-L-07 long wrist brace with thumb spica splint provides professional support in the treatment of conditions and injuries of the radiocarpal joint and thumb.

The brace can be applied in 2 ways:

The orthosis has an anatomical palm splint immobilising the radiocarpal joint and ensuring proper stabilisation, as well as two orthopaedic stays on the dorsal side to prevent excessive joint hyperextension.

In addition, the device features a contoured thumb side splint that effectively immobilises the thumb in a functional position, reducing inflammation and aiding the healing process. Image

The AM-OSN-L-07 wrist brace provides a wide range of adjustment with Velcro fastenings. The open design of the product makes it easy to put on and take off, even when there is a lot of swelling.

The brace is made of skin-friendly, breathable materials that provide constant therapeutic compression of the joint.

The anatomical design of the brace and the external stabilisation in the form of splints limits unwanted movements of the wrist and allows tissue regeneration. It ensures full mobility of the fingers of the hand (with the exception of the thumb) and therefore maintains the grip function of the hand.

The AM-OSN-L-07 wrist brace with removable thumb spica holds the hand and forearm in a neutral position, which reduces tension on ligaments, tendons and joint capsules and reduces painful conditions due to overload.

The brace only comes in 2 sizes and fits both the right and left hand.

UniTape™ is a technological orthopedic lamination with high durability with double-sided self-gripping function. UniTape™ is very thin and easy to attach what allows to fit the braces precisely.

Plastic stays

They come in various widths and thicknesses, are made of various types of plastics, such as polyamide, ABS or acrylic, and these features determine their stiffness. Thanks to their design, they are resistant to water, moisture and sweat. Products equipped with them can be washed without having to remove them from the orthosis. Our plastic stays work only in one direction, perfectly stabilize the laterally protected part of the body, adjusting to it at the same time and have a memory function, thanks to which they always return to their original shape. This function causes the stays in the orthosis to stabilize the swollen limb immediately after the injury and after the swelling has come off. The plastic stays cannot bend and that is why, they cannot correct the body posture or the secured joint.
