AM-OSS-18 – DYNAMIC ANKLE-FOOT ORTHOSIS (AFO) FOR FOOT DROP WITH ADJUSTABLE ANKLE RANGE OF MOTION

Description

FOOT DROP

Foot drop is a gait disorder characterized by difficulty or inability to lift the front part of the foot (dorsiflexion). This leads to a distinctive walking pattern in which the patient often raises the knee high (“steppage gait”) to avoid dragging the toes on the ground. The direct causes may include peroneal nerve damage, neurological conditions (stroke, multiple sclerosis, ALS, neuropathies, muscular dystrophies), spinal cord injuries, or post-traumatic injuries. The AM-OSS-18 dynamic orthosis is designed to effectively correct steppage gait and prevent toe-walking.

Product description:

The AM-OSS-18 AFO maintains the foot and ankle in an optimal position both during walking and standing. Equipped with an adjustable range of motion, it allows the user to set the plantarflexion and/or dorsiflexion angle according to their individual needs.

The active AFO consists of a lightweight carbon fiber shell for foot drop, providing dynamic feedback during movement and correcting the gait process.

The lateral bar is made of lightweight plastic with an adjustable length function, allowing easy adaptation to the patient’s lower leg length.

A hinge mechanism at the ankle joint allows either immobilization of the foot in a neutral physiological position or adjustment of the extension and flexion angle according to therapeutic requirements.

Slightly elastic spiral straps stabilize the medical device on the limb and, working with each user’s movement, adapt compression to muscle activity, calf tension, body weight, and walking speed.

The AM-OSS-18 AFO ensures high comfort and hygiene. It is padded with soft fabric and foam inserts, which facilitate cleaning and reduce pressure on bony prominences.

By stabilizing the foot–ankle complex, the AM-OSS-18 dynamic orthosis prevents toe-walking, stretches the calf muscles and Achilles tendon, and maintains the full range of joint motion.

Using the AM-OSS-18 AFO improves ground contact of the foot, enabling even weight distribution and reducing forefoot pressure, which enhances the overall gait pattern. It stabilizes the ankle joint and corrects foot alignment, significantly reducing the risk of tripping and falling. Furthermore, it supports balance and coordination, leading to improved mobility, reduced pain, and less fatigue while walking. Proper foot and ankle alignment also positively affects overall body posture, correcting knee and hip positioning, alleviating back pain, reducing muscle tension, and supporting functional motor performance.

The AM-OSS-18 dynamic ankle-foot orthosis is an effective support tool in the treatment and rehabilitation of neurological conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, neuropathies, and spinal cord injuries.

Additionally, an optional soft lateral pad can be ordered for even better product fit.

Technology

MATERIALS

Active3D™

Active3D™ is thermoformed fabric made of special foamed, cell-closed designed material. It reduces the pressure on the body or any abrasions made by orthopaedic stays and aluminum splints. It is fully waterproof fabric and does not absorb sweat. It’s easy to clean. Due to its features, the fabric is an excellent product for making medical orthopaedic braces and orthoses. ACTIVE 3D™ has various external self-gripping layers. Our material has special, thermoformed properties and may be shaped according to the functional goals of the final braces.

STIFFENINGS

Foot drop orthosis

The foot drop orthosis is available in different sizes for the right and left leg. It consists of a sole insert, a spiral stiffening and a shin pad. It is made of carbon fiber, locally reinforced with Cevlar. Rotary buckles are installed to the shin pad to enable the correct placement of the rear belt.

PADDINGS

3D supports

3D relief supports are independent technical solutions to relieve the rigid elements of a given orthosis. These elements are made of supporting foams or EVA foam. These foams are connected with various types of skin-friendly materials and materials with an adhesive function. These pads have the appropriate shape and color adapted to the type of orthosis. They relieve both metal elements of orthoses, such as splints, stays, underwires and orthopedic drop locks, as well as other elements that should not come into direct contact with the patient's skin. These pads have an anatomical shape and are made of comfortable foam with proper hardness and elasticity, guaranteeing the proper therapeutic effect.
